Many people have asked me what are the
steps to producing your own CD.
In response, I've gone a step further and
put together the following guide for aspiring artists.
How to produce
a CD in under 10 years.
Your
guide to prolonging every step of the way.
1.
Buy your own recorder, then learn how to use it. (add 1 year)
2. Work on 4 CD's for your other band, and assist additional friends
with their projects. (add 2 years)
3. Write record, mix and master an additional solo CD, but don't
even finish it. (add 1 year)
3. Get married. (add incalculable amount of time)
4. Write a book. (add 1 year)
5. Because you are a control freak, insist on playing almost all
the instruments. If you don't know how to play one, learn first.
Do all recording, mixing, production and even some of the art decisions
yourself (add 1 year)
6. Try to pick up yet another instrument, just for the hell of it.
(add 3 months)
7. Have a child. (add 1 year—If twins add 2 years)
8. Learn how to create a website. Build your own website. (add 2
months)
9. Change day jobs at least once, but three times is a charm. (add
3 months for each new job)
10. Search for a home to purchase. (1 day for each house visited)
11. Each band member buy a house, but in different directions from the original point, and one out of state. (add 2 ...uh, oh I give up.)
add up the total time to see how long your
project will take.
